Kindergarten Phonics

• The SE Teacher's Manual includes daily lesson plans and reference material, making it ideal for home school programs and classroom phonics. The lesson plans are easy to follow with light scripting, thumbnail sketches of workbook pages, reduced-size pictures from the reading books with story text to allow you to follow along. • Two SE Workbooks (now with laminated covers) provide over 175 colorful worksheets, including phonics activities. Activities cover spelling, phonics, reading comprehension, and weekly assessments. . See sample workbook pages.

• Ten First Step Color Readers are four-page books that give the child an easy and early experience in reading a book.


• Twenty McRuffy Readers range from 8 to 15 pages. These humorous stories reinforce the weekly kindergarten phonics concepts. All books are printed in color with cardstock covers. See sample book.

• The SE Resource Pack contains flashcards for additional practice and game playing. Over 360 flashcards are printed 24 cards to a sheet and require cutting. The colorful short and long vowel charts are now laminated in the SE version. See sample Resource Pack.


• We haven't forgotten those children who like to color. Three new items are in the SE Resource Pack.
  
  1. The puppet cut-outs feature characters from the stories that can be colored and made into stick puppets for creative story-telling. This activity reinforces kindergarten phonics by making lessons more fun and hands on.
  2. Ruff's Pre-Writing Flip and Draw provides numerous tracing and coloring activities on reproducible pages, or use the unique flip out page and dry-erase markers (Markers are not included.)
  3. Coloring sheet copy master for each story.


• Now included in the Resource Pack is the SE Games Pack. Game titles are: Wiggle Worm, Reading Baseball, Ruff's Lunch, Go Bananas!, and The Fish Pond. These feature laminated game boards, game pieces, and game cards.

• Handwriting assignments are included in the Teacher's Manual to round out kindergarten phonics. Check out the optional Kindergarten McRuffy Handwriting books which provide additional tracing and practice exercises.

The transition package is simply the second half of the full Kindergarten SE Curriculum and builds on the kindergarten phonics taught.

This option is provided for children who have a good grasp of short vowel words, but need additional instruction with long vowel words in order to begin the McRuffy First Grade SE Phonics and Reading program with a solid mastery of kindergarten phonics.

• The transition package includes lessons 91 to 175 and the supporting material.

1. Lessons 91 to 110 will review and reinforce short vowel word skills.

2. Students will start learning long vowel words in lesson 111 beginning with long a.
